Kenny Atkinson cooks for the Darlington fair

The acclaimed chef who appears regularly on TV, Kenny Atkinson, is showing support for his home town of Darlington by appearing at their country fair, and those lucky enough to grab seats in front of the dishes will get the chance to sample Kenny’s delicious dishes.

The big event is to be held at the Grange Community Centre near Darlington in Hurworth Village on September 17, and Kenny will be there throughout the day to do three cookery demonstrations. The chef, whose name is above the door of The Orangery, the five star resort restaurant at the golf and spa resort Rockliffe Hall, is best known for the winning dishes he has produced on various TV shows, such as the Great British Menu on BBC2.

Just as he does on his appearances on the popular cooking show on the BBC, Saturday Kitchen, Kenny will be showing off his cooking skills to the crowds who are expected to attend the fair and will be advising the audience how to create his signature dishes in his live cookery demos. The fair, which is to be organised by the Hurworth Parish Council should draw great crowds to see a true master at work.

Amongst the gorgeous dishes that the lucky spectators at the front will get to taste are expected to be a stunning dessert and also two mouth-watering fish dishes. The fair is the first of its kind to be held in Hurworth village, and is being hosted in conjunction with St. Theresa’s Hospice and the Hurworth Community Association.

The family day out which opens at 10:30 has been sponsored by Rockliffe Hall, a well-known hotel in Darlington, alongside Sherwoods of Darlington, Borderfields, and Thomas Watson Auctioneers and the fair promises people all ages fun throughout the entire day.

Kenny says:“This event is the only live demonstration I am going to do this year and it gives the people of Hurworth and further afield the chance to see me cook some of the fantastic signature dishes that they can eat at Rockliffe Hall, without being on TV, and hopefully this will will draw quite a crowd to the first Hurworth country fair. I really want to get involved in the local community, as it is now my home and I’m keen to give something back.”
