Finalists of this years Sussex Food and Drink Awards revealed

The Sussex Food and Drink Awards 2012/13 were launched at the South of England Show by Olympic champion Sally Gunnell last week. The seventy-five businesses that have reached the finals of this year’s awards were also revealed. They were nominated for the Awards by the public and then assessed by a panel of experts which was chaired by the food guru Clive Beddall.

Mr. Beddall said that some of the country’s top producers of food and drink come from Sussex and that they all work hard to provide quality produce for the local community. More than a hundred guests from the farming and food producing community enjoyed the launch breakfast provided by Paul Peach of the Horse Guards Inn at Tillington. Mr. Peach is also Sussex Young Chef of the Year.

There was then a debate on the sustainability of food in sport. Guest speakers included Sally Gunnell, Clive Beddall, Gwyn Jones, former Vice President of the NFU, Nick Hempleman, winner of the Best Sussex Farm/Food Shop and David Allam, High Sheriff of East Sussex.
