For those who enjoy food and wine, the Lake District is about to become a very popular destination to head to during the middle of November because this is when their food and wine festival takes place. The event is called the Woolpack Wine Festival, as it takes place on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of November.
This event first launched last year, and it was an instant success. Hundreds of people came during the three-day event, and it has now become a firm favourite in the Lake District food calendar. At the event there are some hundred thousand different wines available for tasting, which have come from all around the world. There are also many local wines available to taste, to give you an idea of where the British wine scene is at. There are also a wide range of local foods to sample.
The wine festival is a great opportunity to meet with fellow wine lovers, to learn about wine and taste a selection of the world’s finest wines, supplied by some of Cumbria’s top wine merchants, like; Egremont Co-Op, Booths, Windermere Wine Stores, Majestic, Berkmann Wine Cellars and Laithwaites.
As well as the tempting wines on offer there are several special events taking place throughout the festival, starting with a special guest speaker on the evening of Thursday 15th November, live music on Friday 16th November and a fabulous seven course celebration dinner to close the festival on Saturday 17th.
The celebration dinner will be served in the dining room at the Woolpack Inn and accompanied by a selection of fine wines of course! The dinner menu is set to feature some of the best fresh local produce including; nibbles accompanied by a selection of dipping oils from Agnes Rose, as well as classic dishes like rabbit and pheasant terrine, clear Herdwick mutton soup, as well as Holker venison bourguignon and pumpkin ravioli all rounded off with a selction of local cheeses from Thornby Moor Dairy. The dinner costs £45 per person.
Entry to the festival costs just £5 and includes a glass of Beaujolais on arrival served in your very own festival wine glass. Tokens can then be purchased for some generous (50ml) tastings of the wines on offer. 3 wine tasting tokens will cost £5 and 8 wine tasting tokens will cost £10.
The festival provides the perfect opportunity to improve your wine knowledge or stock up on some wines for Christmas gifts and celebrations.
