Taste Cumbria Food Festival

Cumbrian food and drink will be promoted this weekend at the Taste Cumbria Food Festival to an array of world famous musicians like The Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga all at the Radio 1 Big Weekend music fest.

Luxury hotel Sharrow Bay will join forces to serve up the finest Cumbrian produce to all the big name performers and crew who will be dining in a backstage specially designed Yurt complex VIP area for the two day event.

Attracting music aficionados for all over the country, BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend is the UK’s largest free ticketed festival and more than 40,000 fans can enjoy the likes of Plan B, Tinie Tempah, Ellie Goulding, Foo Fighters and My Chemical Romance.

On Saturday and Sunday Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton, Annie Mac and Scott Mills among others will broadcast from the event broadcasting live until May 13 are Greg James and Chris Moyles.

The organizers of the Taste of Cumbria Festival, SK Events, have encouraged the involvement of chefs from the Michelin starred Sharrow Bay. The Chefs will showcase their expertise and cook for all the stars and other VIP’s in the yurt, preparing distinct Cumbrian flavour with contemporary culinary methods.

The West Cumbria tourism manager said that it is very exciting that the Taste of Cumbria brand is combining with Radio 1 giving exposure to the delicious tastes of Cumbrian food to a huge audience they will see they are second to none.

Taste of Cumbria Food Festival’s first year was 2010 and it promotes the areas national and international popularity and reputation of excellent quality produce and incomparable culinary talent.

The Festival returns this year to Cockermouth September 24-25 as last year saw thousands descend on the little town to partake in the foodie heaven activities. The 2011 edition is set to be even bigger and better with an array of different activities in addition to all the events that are planned for the weekend throughout the town.
