There is nothing quite like taking a trip to a market to get the best of fresh, local produce and if you are lucky enough to live in the Anglesey area you have access to one of the best. The Anglesey Farmers Market takes place on the third Saturday of every month at David Hughes school on the Menai Bridge. The large indoor space is perfect for leisurely browsing, and there is ample free parking right at the door.
The local producers who come to market to sell their wares offer a vast and varied selection of produce ranging from organic mushrooms and freshly baked bread to locally grown vegetables and fresh crabs that have been caught on the Anglesey coastline. When it comes to choosing your joint for Sunday, you are spoilt for choice with free range chickens, guinea fowl and duck alongside Welsh black beef and free range lamb and pork.
You will no doubt be tempted by the range of desserts on offer too, with puddings, ice cream and mouth watering cakes and cheesecakes that are almost impossible to resist. There are also a large number of award winning producers at the market, whose prizes range from Great Taste and True Taste winners to UK Local Food Heroes, a huge achievement for such a small island.
It’s nigh impossible to describe the Anglesey Farmers Market in words, you have to be there yourself to experience all the sights, sounds and delicious smells. Take your time to choose your produce, talk to those who have grown it, taste samples guaranteed to make you want more, and have a great time. At the end of the day you will go home laden with some of the freshest produce you can buy, and feel proud of supporting local producers.
